Transport Minister Anthony Loke struck most Malaysians as a very effective and down-to-earth guy who couldn’t care less about haters, but this time, he decided to speak up because the hater was MCA.

Last week (August 2018), Anthony’s announcement of all unpaid automated enforcement system (AES) summonses being cancelled was applauded by the majority of Malaysians. However, MCA Youth described the move as “foolish” and “wrong” in a statement issued on Sunday (19 August).

“Traffic offenders should be penalised and made to shoulder responsibility for their actions. It is obvious that the cancellation of all AES summonses is to satisfy the public and to encourage road users to breach the law,” Datuk Leong Kim Soon said.

As such, the MCA Youth had demanded an apology from Loke over the move, adding that the Pakatan Harapan Government is not facing the real problems at hand.

Responding to the statement, Loke outright retaliated by saying that he can accept criticism from anyone, except MCA. That’s because the Transport Minister who signed the unfair contract was from MCA.

Loke went on saying that only a fool would sign the contract after seeing the terms and conditions because it is very obvious, a lopsided contract. It was reported that every single cent paid by the traffic offenders for AES summonses have been pocketed by ATES and Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd, the two companies that were earlier appointed by the BN Government to handle the operation.

As such, even if Malaysians continued paying the summonses, the Pakatan Harapan Government will not get a single cent. So, all the unpaid ones were wiped out in order for the Transport Ministry to reboot the system on 1 September. Loke also pointed out that it’s unacceptable for the previous government to fully privatise the AES system.
